12 Seater Tempo Traveller Hire in Kochi: What You Actually Get

Twelve seats, 100 km a day included, ₹23/km after that. A straight look at what a 12 seater tempo traveller costs in Kochi and when it is the wrong van to book.

Twelve seats is the number most groups settle on. Not because anyone sets out to book a twelve-seater — it is that two families, a set of cousins and one grandmother add up faster than people expect, and a 12 seater tempo takes that whole list without anyone riding a jump seat for six hours.

So here is what the van actually is, what it costs, and where it is the wrong choice.

It is not a bus. That distinction decides more trips than people expect.

The vehicle, plainly

Twelve push-back seats plus the driver. Air conditioning with vents running the length of the cabin, not just two nozzles at the front. A luggage hold behind the rear bench that takes the hard-shell cases most families bring, and roof space if you are carrying something long.

It is a tempo traveller, so the body is narrower than a bus and it will go anywhere a car goes — including the hill roads, which matters more than people realise until they are on the Adimali climb into Munnar. Narrow matters. A full-size bus simply cannot take those bends.

What it costs, without the fine print hidden

The 12 seater is ₹3,000 per day, and each day includes 100 km. Straight numbers:

  • 1 Night / 2 Days — ₹6,000, 200 km included
  • 3 Nights / 4 Days — ₹12,000, 400 km included
  • 5 Nights / 6 Days — ₹18,000, 600 km included

Past the included distance it is ₹23 per extra kilometre. Driver allowance is ₹700 per day extra, on top of the package figure. Parking and tolls inside Kerala are free — that one catches people out, because they budget for it and then it never appears.

One rule worth reading twice: kilometres are counted from the garage and back to the same garage. If you are staying in Fort Kochi and we hand over at Aluva, the run out to you and back is part of the meter. That is standard across the industry, but it is the reason a quote can look bigger than the straight road distance on a map app.

Ask about the handover point before you book. Most people never do, and then the invoice surprises them.

Where the 12 seater earns its money

Short overnight trips, mostly. Ours leave from Aluva, Cochin Airport, Vytilla or Kaloor.

  • Alleppey — 76 km, around an hour. The shortest real trip we run, easily done as one night.
  • Vagamon — 95 km, an hour and a half up into the meadows.
  • Munnar — 111 km, roughly an hour and forty minutes of actual driving, but it is the hill stretch that decides your day.
  • Thekkady — 158 km, two nights, because Periyar needs a proper morning.

For a group of eight or nine, honestly, the 12 seater is more van than you need. It is a better fit once you cross ten people and the luggage is real.

Three reasons to book something else

I would rather tell you this now than have you find out on the road.

If there are only six or seven of you, take the Winger. It is ₹2,600 a day instead of ₹3,000 and it will feel roomier per person, not tighter.

If everyone packs a full-size suitcase, ask us about the 17 seater. Twelve people with twelve big cases is a squeeze at the rear, and the back row sits over the axle, so it rides harder than the rest of the cabin.

If you want reclining seats for a long haul, this is the executive spec, not the premium one. The Premium Tempo 12 at ₹3,400 a day is the one with recliners and the quieter cabin. Same seat count, different interior.

Booking it

You can book online, or call us on +91 70343 01815 and we will tell you straight whether the 12 seater is right for your group and route. If it is not, we will say so.

Rates above are indicative and change during peak festive days. Your final quote is confirmed by our team against your actual itinerary — kilometres counted garage to garage, driver allowance and any interstate permit shown as separate lines so nothing is buried in a single mystery figure.

Common questions

How many people fit in a 12 seater tempo traveller?
Twelve passengers, plus the driver. The 12 seater is the layout most groups of ten to twelve end up booking, because it leaves the rear bench free for luggage or for someone to stretch out.
What does a 12 seater tempo cost per day in Kochi?
₹3,000 per day, with 100 km included per day. Beyond that it is ₹23 per extra kilometre, and driver allowance is ₹700 per day extra. Parking and tolls inside Kerala are included.
Is the 12 seater tempo traveller air conditioned?
Yes. It runs a factory-fitted AC with vents down the cabin, and the rear section cools down properly on a long run rather than only the front two rows.
Can a 12 seater tempo traveller go to Tamil Nadu?
It can, but Kodaikanal, Madurai, Kanyakumari and Rameswaram all cross the state line, so an interstate RTO permit applies. We arrange it and add it to your quote rather than leaving you to sort it at the border.
