Tempo Traveller for a Kochi Wedding: Moving Guests Without the Chaos
Guest transport is the part of a Kerala wedding nobody plans properly. How to use a tempo traveller across the ceremonies, and the mistakes that cost you the day.

Ask anyone who has run a Kerala wedding what went wrong, and it is almost never the food or the flowers. It is a group of relatives standing outside a hall at midnight because nobody arranged how they were getting back.
Guest transport is the unglamorous part and it is the part that decides whether the day feels calm. A tempo traveller is the right tool for it. The trick is planning the vehicle around the wedding, not the wedding around the vehicle.
Where the day actually breaks
A Kochi wedding is usually three separate movements, not one.
The first is arrivals — relatives flying into Cochin Airport across the morning, or arriving at Ernakulam Junction by train, needing to reach a hotel or the venue. This is not a wedding-day job at all, it is two or three separate runs.
The second is the ceremony, where everyone needs to be in one place at one time.
The third is the reception, later, at the same venue or a different one, with people leaving at different times.
One van cannot cover all three. Say it plainly now and save the argument later.
The shape that works
Book one van for the day and let it be the family vehicle. It does the hotel-to-venue run in the morning, waits through the ceremony, and takes the group to the reception. Guests ride together, the driver knows the plan, and nobody is hunting for parking.
Then handle airport and station arrivals separately — either as individual transfers or by grouping them. Cochin Airport is about 45 minutes from central Kochi on a good day, and longer in the evening, so arrivals cluster poorly on a wedding morning.
A 12 seater covers the immediate family and the bridal party. A 17 seater or a 26 seater lets the wider group travel in one vehicle instead of two cars, which is usually where the money is saved and the chaos is avoided.
What it costs
Local hire is billed as a day package — 8 hours and 80 km per vehicle — not by the kilometre on the meter. That is a fixed number, which is what you want when a ceremony runs long.
- 12 seater — ₹3,000 per day
- 17 seater — ₹3,300 per day
- 26 seater — ₹5,300 per day
Driver allowance is ₹700 per day extra. Tolls and parking inside Kerala are free.
Two practical notes. Kilometres are counted from the garage and back, so a venue far from Aluva eats into the 80 km faster than you would think. And if the wedding is in Thrissur or Alleppey rather than Kochi, tell us, because it becomes a package trip rather than a local day and the rate changes.
Timing, honestly
Hotels in Kochi want the hall back by a certain hour. Photographers want the couple for another forty minutes. Relatives want to talk to people they have not seen in ten years. The ceremony will almost certainly run later than the plan on the invitation.
That is why a day package with a waiting driver beats a car booked by the trip. The van is yours for the booked window. The driver is not watching a clock to see if a second fare is worth taking.
What you should not do is book a van for eight hours and then need it for twelve. Tell us the realistic worst case for your day and we will quote for it. It is cheaper than finding out at 11 pm.
A practical checklist
Give every guest the driver’s number the day before. One number, written down, is worth more than a hundred messages in a group chat.
Fix a pickup point at the venue that is not the main gate — wedding traffic and photographers both work around the gate.
Nominate one person as the transport contact. The driver should have a single person to call, not eleven.
And if your group is arriving across two days, say so at the booking stage. Grouping arrivals into two or three runs turns five separate transfers into two sensible trips.
Booking
Tell us the date, the venue, how many guests and where they are arriving from, and we will put together the day honestly — one van, or two, and what each actually costs.

Common questions
- Can one tempo traveller handle a wedding day?
- Usually not on its own. A wedding has an airport run in the morning, a ceremony mid-day and a reception at night, and a single van cannot be in three places. Most families book one van for the day and arrange a second for the airport legs.
- How many guests fit in a tempo traveller for a wedding?
- Our vans seat 9 to 26. A 12 seater is the usual pick for the immediate family and the bridal party; a 17 or 26 seater handles the wider group in one run.
- Do you wait during the ceremony?
- Yes. The van and driver stay with you for the booked duration. Waiting time inside a local day hire is covered by the booking, which is why we need your realistic schedule rather than a guess.
- What does a tempo traveller cost for a Kochi wedding?
- Local hire is quoted as an 8 hour / 80 km day package per vehicle — ₹3,000 for a 12 seater and ₹3,300 for a 17 seater, with driver allowance extra. Airport transfers are quoted separately if they fall outside the day.
