A Winger and an Executive Tempo 12 at our Aluva garage.

Two vans, Rs 400 apart per day, and both charge the same Rs 23 for every kilometre past the 100 included. So the question is not which one is cheaper overall on a long run. It is which one fits the people you are actually carrying.

Here is the comparison, with a winner named for the situations that come up most.

The head-to-head

  • Winger AC 9/12 seat - Rs 2,600 a day, Rs 23 extra km, Rs 700 driver allowance, flexible 9-or-12 layout, roof luggage space
  • Executive Tempo 12 - Rs 3,000 a day, Rs 23 extra km, Rs 700 driver allowance, push-back seats

Both carry twelve plus a driver at full layout. Both include 100 km a day. Both cost the same per extra kilometre, so that line never decides it.

The daily rate does. Over a multi-night package, the gap compounds.

What the price gap looks like on a real trip

A 12 seater package is nights plus one, times the daily rate.

  • 1 Night / 2 Days - Winger Rs 5,200, Executive Rs 6,000. Gap Rs 800.
  • 3 Nights / 4 Days - Winger Rs 10,400, Executive Rs 12,000. Gap Rs 1,600.
  • 5 Nights / 6 Days - Winger Rs 15,600, Executive Rs 18,000. Gap Rs 2,400.

Driver allowance of Rs 700 a day is the same on both, so ignore it when comparing. On a one-night Alleppey run, Rs 800 is a meal for the group. On a six-day trip, Rs 2,400 is real money.

Where the Winger wins

Eight or nine people, packing properly. The Winger’s flexible layout is the whole argument. Book it as a 12 seater and you have a spare bench for bags. Book the 9-seat version and you trade three seats for a luggage floor.

That second option is the one groups miss. Eight travellers with suitcases rarely need nine seats. They need somewhere to put the cases.

Anything with luggage on a hill run. Wagamon is 95 km from Aluva and about 93 minutes of climbing. Munnar is 111 km and roughly 99 minutes on the ghat section past Adimali. Roof space is a genuine advantage on those runs, and the Winger has it.

When the budget is tight and the group is under ten. Rs 2,600 a day is the cheapest way in the fleet to move a group that size. It is also the van we hand to families who would otherwise be looking at two cabs.

Where the Executive Tempo 12 wins

A full twelve with real luggage and push-back seats wanted. The Executive Tempo 12 has push-back seats and a cabin built for twelve, not twelve squeezed into a layout designed to flex down to nine.

When comfort on the seat matters more than the Rs 400. On a long day, a cabin configured for its full capacity rides better than a flexible one used at its limit.

Thekkady, 158 km and two nights. By the second day, most groups are glad they took the roomier van.

The honest downside of each

The Winger at full 12-seat layout is tighter than the Executive Tempo 12. If you are carrying twelve adults and twelve large cases, you will feel it. Do not book the Winger for twelve heavy packers.

The Executive Tempo 12 costs Rs 2,400 more across six days and gives you nothing extra in luggage space over the Winger. You are paying for the cabin, not the boot.

If neither quite fits - say nine people with enormous bags - the honest answer is the Executive Tempo 17 at Rs 3,300 a day, and we will say so.

The verdict, situation by situation

  • Eight or nine people, some luggage - Winger, on the 9-seat layout. Cheaper and roomier per person.
  • A trip with awkward or bulky items - Winger, for the roof.
  • A one or two-night trip on a tight budget - Winger.
  • A full twelve, with push-back seats wanted - Executive Tempo 12.
  • A long southern run where the cabin comfort matters by day three - Executive Tempo 12.

Neither is the wrong answer. The Winger is the value pick and the flexible one. The Executive Tempo 12 is the one you take when the group is genuinely full and the cabin is the point. If you cannot decide, call us and describe the trip. It takes two minutes.
